Former Queen of Peace church to become mosque, youth center

from The Buffalo News

A Muslim group has purchased the former Queen of Peace Catholic Church, rectory, convent and school on Genesee Street and plans to use the complex as a community center and mosque.

The church, by the architects who designed the landmark Buffalo City Hall, will be called Masjid Jami, which means a space to gather together, said Dr. Hatim Hamad, who is leading a group of Muslim parents backing the purchase.

The deal is further evidence of a growing Muslim presence throughout Western New York, which already has nine mosques and a 10th being built on Transit Road in Amherst."

i posted about this, too - i live in the suburbs in the DOBuffalo, and I am sick and horrified! Our beautiful faith is being handed over to pagans who already hate us, and the Diocese complains (er - a certain priest) that they really didn't make any money on it - just $20,000.00 after expenses. Doesn't matter if it's 1 penny or 1 million bucks - we need catholic Action in this town, and a new Bishop to also clean house - and i don't mean houses of worship. What about evangelizing these people instead of leaving them in their error? Peace, love, and Pagan-Cola? We all need to stand up just like the 'tea parties' are doing, and defend our churches adn our faith - it's up to the laity to do this; get off of the altar area and do what christ would have us do.

What a shame - selling one of the diocese's most beautiful churches to the Muslims. I can still picture Bishop Kmiec standing on the altar and telling us how beautiful Queen of Peace was. So much for that. The statue of the Queen of Peace is now a museum piece. Have to wonder what will left of the DOB when Kmiec's finally gone.

Adrienne, if you are in the suburbs, you are part of the problem. Move back to the city. Instead of complaining about what the Bishop is doing, take action. Don't tell THEM do evangelize, do it yourself!
