Modern purgatory

When Eugenie Smet founded the Society of the Helpers of the Holy Souls, she could hardly have thought that one of the 21st century members of the Society would have this vision of purgatory. An article celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Society says that purgatory is no longer a location where the dead must atone for their sins for a specific time rather a transitional situation which can even be found during our lives.

As the protestant King Henry IV of France once joked of the monks of St Denis, "Our souls will spend a long time in purgatory if we wait for these people to pull us out". Henry is buried in St Denis, so in the end it could be that the only people praying for him were these monks before the vile French Revolution disolved the abbey and desecrated the tombs.
