Retreat centre faces closure

"One of Canberra's most historic Catholic landmarks to close":

"Over the years, Blackfriars has become well known as a gathering place for Catholics of the Archdiocese and beyond and for members of other churches, including Anglicans, other faiths, including Buddhists, and various secular organisations and groups."

None of these ecumenical and inter-religious partners will rush to save a Catholic retreat centre. In fact, privately, they can't wait for its closure.

Incidentally, because so many religious houses closed in the seventies, eighties and nineties and their property sold, there are some religious orders who must be sitting on cash mountains. Why can't this money be used to save the parish churches?
